Cultural Diversity in the Healthcare Field

Social Diversity in the Healthcare field The Many Faces of Healthcare Cultural Diversity in the Healthcare Field Carl Hooks Rasmussen College Author Note This examination is being submitted on September 16, 2010, for Vicky Philips English class at Rasmussen College via Carl Hooks Cultural assorted variety in the clinical field is, now and again, incredibly prevented as a result of strict convictions, language hindrances, and the chains of importance of various societies and these have the affinity to influence the congruity of care for the patients. â€Å"Every individual has various perspectives that comprise their personalities, as indicated by how they see themselves†¦.This implies that seeing a person regarding their character can be inefficient. † (Weaver, 2009). Nursing work force, specifically, need to think about all social contrasts between the patient and the nursing staff. These distinctions shift from various perspectives as there are diverse ethnic gatherings in a specific zone. Strict convictions can impede the nursing care of patients. There are a wide range of strict convictions in the same number of various religions. The strict conviction generally basic in the United States, obviously, is the Jehovah Witness who denies transfusions. This religion has a solid confidence in saving the spirit before the body. Different religions have different convictions that we may not see, yet need to regard and attempt to work around to think about the patient. â€Å"If individuals trust it is God who gives both wellbeing and ailment, it might be hard to get them to take their medicine or change their behavior†¦. they would see no point agonizing over hypertension or microorganisms when moral conduct is the way to great wellbeing. † (Galanti, 2001). This sort of conviction will block the clinical staff and their way to deal with a clinical cure.Whenever conceivable, staff should endeavor of join both strict convictions and medication t o think about the patient. Generally (wonders do occur), strict convictions can postpone the consideration and strength of the patient, and leaves the wellbeing experts with a colossal quandary about what to do, and incredibly defers the recuperating procedure. To see how religion assumes a job in the consideration given to the patient is to give better think about our patients. Subsequently, most by far of individuals do trust in a type of religion, regardless of whether it is God or some other higher force. Social elements coming from strict convictions and practices can intensy affect wellbeing. † (Abdoul and Abdoul, 2010). There may come when the clinical staff needs to give a towel (supplication matt) and a calm spot to go to a culture that doesn't consider the normal emergency clinic house of prayer a fitting spot to pray.In some strict, â€Å"It is regularly accepted that sickness is sent from God as requital for sins since God is seen as the afflicter just as healer. † (Abdoul and Abloul,2010). Food additionally has a major influence in certain religions which go past the customary Jewish mother’s chicken soup. †¦. know that strict convictions and practices can impact food decision, as there might be people inside a gathering that watch severe dietary necessities. † (Black, 2010). All strict back grounds ought to be mulled over and, at whatever point conceivable, be accommodated, and this will help in advancing viable medicinal services. Language hindrances present extraordinary troubles when speaking with patients. It is basic that both patient and nursing staff see precisely what is being said. Consequently a proper prepared or confirmed translator ought to be used at whatever point possible.Health care laborers are encountering more language troubles than any other time in recent memory. â€Å"Fully 54 million Americans†¦. about 20 percent of the population†¦. try not to communicate in English at home. † (Armand and Hubbard,2010). Except for California, Texas, and Florida, which have more than 43 percent of the populace, that are grouped LEP (restricted English capable). The translator ought to be prepared to decipher for the patients sake. Relatives, now and again, can be of incredible help, however then HIPPA comes into play. The patient may not need a specific relative to think about their medical issues. The language boundary inhibits adequate consideration, and this ought to be tended to with the most extreme of care and thought for both the clinical staff and patient. Protecting that the patient completely comprehends what is being done to them is critical. As patients, they reserve the privilege to comprehend what is being done and why. Educated assent must be given; the patient ought to have the option to rehash what they have been educated regarding before the methodology is finished. At present â€Å"only 33 percent of U.S. emergency clinics have quality improvement end eavors in progress to improve the nature of their language get to programs. † (Armand and Hubbard, 2010). The objective of the translator is to guarantee that the LEP persistent has no questions or concerns and absolutely comprehends what will occur, why, and any choices they may have. Understanding the chain of importance of the family is basic in understanding the elements of the nuclear family. With some nature with the various societies in a given network, a clinical expert will have the option to find out who the leader of the family is.The leader of the family contrasts from culture to culture, accordingly, â€Å"misunderstandings which incorporate yet are not constrained to the contribution of the male in all parts of medicinal services for his significant other and kids; the osmosis of youngsters into all parts of life; female lowliness; the subordinate status of ladies; and the solid accentuation on customary female job. (Abdoul and Abdoul, 2010). By characterizing w ho the leader of the family is and giving them the regard they merit will be foremost in a rapid recuperation for the patient. As the leader of the family is distinguished, it is significant that they are remembered for the entirety of the choices made for the benefit of the patient. In the event that and when the controlling individual isn't promptly accessible, all endeavors ought to be practiced to contact that individual. In uncommon hazardous conditions should clinical faculty continue without that people assent, the leader of the family unit ought to be given sufficient time to examine strategies with the patient should they require this. His/her choice ought to be regarded when they choose what is fitting for their family member.Given the most relevant data and choices, the family would then be able to settle on an educated choice and the regard regarding the chain of command of the family has not been undermined. All assorted varieties ought to be thought about when thinking about a patient. By understanding what significance the patient puts on their way of life, the clinical staff can all the more likely serve the patient. â€Å"Hospitals can be a wellspring of stress and disappointment for patients and their families, since they are most helpless when they are there and are put helpless before qualities and convictions not of their own. † (Galanti, 2001).Making a patient mindful that clinical staff comprehends and will do all that is conceivable to stick to their social contrasts can just guide in giving the most ideal medicinal services. A consideration plan is constantly accomplished for patients when they are admitted to the medical clinic. While defining a consideration plan, the medical caretaker ought to consistently consider and accommodate the social contrasts of the person. The consideration plan ought to be looked into by all staff that takes an interest being taken care of by the patient. The consideration plan ought to be talked ab out with the patient and family to guarantee that all parts of their social practices have been addressed. If this isn't done, at that point the patient’s result can be incredibly hampered. Social assorted variety in the clinical field, now and again, can be extraordinarily impeded due to strict convictions, language obstructions, and the progression of different societies, and these have the penchant to influence the congruity of care for the patient. All perspectives should be considered to guarantee that the most proficient consideration be given for the patient.References ABOUL-ENEIN, B. , & AHOUL-ENEIN, F. (2010). The Incidents In The Life - Free Essay Example

Introduction The autobiography of the Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl Linda Brent, reveals why she decided to make her personal story public. In the autobiography, we could see how her life was before she was enslaved and the struggles she had to go through when she was a slave. Her parents take care of her for her first six years. The death of her mother and her father resulted to be raised by her grandmother named Aunty Marty. Brents parents did not mention to her that she was a slave. She grew up with a better mentality rather than a person who knew they were owned by someone from the start. Margaret Horniblow was her slave owner, she taught her to do things that many slave owners would not teach a slave until she passed away. She knew about literature and how to sew thanks to her mistress. After her mistress Margaret died when Linda was twelve, Linda got a new mistress she was five years old named Emily Flint. The five-year-old father Dr. Flint was the one who told Linda what to do. He was like a villain in the story. We could see in that he abuses of the power that the slave system gives him. He never showed a sign of sympathy for the way he would abuse the slaves. Dr. Flint abuses Linda sexually but she is not left with her arms crossed, she actually gets into a relationship with a white man named Mr. Sands who is successful but she doesnt love him and the result of that affair they had two children. Brent runs away from Dr. Flint and she hides for seven years in an attic. In this paper, I will form an argument on how the Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl provides evidence in white and slave cultures that shows the social construction of gender shaped workspace, family, and the type of access of education. Education was not given to slaves because many slave owners saw them as a property. In their eyes they thought they had no need to learn anything. Education was exclusive to slaves it did not matter if you were a male nor female. However, if a slave knew how to read was because their masters or mistress taught them to, these masters or mistress were considered to be a sympathetic master. To have a sympathetic mistress or master was very rare. An example, for this, would be the fact that Linda knew English literacy and she was taught by Margaret Horniblow. White people did receive an education, women, and men were able to get an education. The family was very important to both white and black people. However, being black was hard due to the fact that their families would always get torn apart. White slave owners were cruel because they did not feel sympathy for the children who were taken away from their mothers. A mother would do anything to get their children back but it was not easy, if the mother wanted her child back she had to purchase them as if they were some type of toy they were buying from the store. In the autobiography, it states how families were torn apart. An example of this is her grandmother, Aunty Marty was separated from her kids, Benjamin and Philip. Aunty Marty became her own mistress, she bought her son Philip but never knew what happen to her son Benjamin after he was free. The family structure of a slave is how we could imagine it, males were in charge, as part of their job they had to provide to his owner but if the male slave did not have a family it would be the same structure but what changed is that he had to only support himself. Linda remained hiding in a space above the shed of her grandmothers for seven years in order to get freedom not only her but her two children. The sacrifice she did was an act of true love for her family. Families would get separated no matter your gender, female and male slaves were treated the same in that aspect. A white person had it easy, they did not have to worry who was going to buy them and how were they going to be split apart or if they had to have enough money to get their children back from a slave owner. In a white persons household was different they were never separated. The only reason a white person was separated from their family was that they were running away from them due to conflicts and different opinions that they shared. Everybody would like to have a job in order to have money on his or her wallet and provide the bread for your family. If you were a female and male slave getting a job was not easy, typically slaves had a challenging job such as working in the plantation fields. Female slaves did everything at home, cook, clean, and bare children. In the autobiography states, how a female would cook for the master and if the master was not satisfied with food, the master would whip the female slave. Dr. Flit would force that slave to eat everything from her plate in front of him. Slave owners would have sexual desires for their slaves. Slaves had to obey what their master told them to do if there was some type of resists they were punished. Having to be owned by someone was not easy, male slaves would get into arguments with their master and the arguments would escalate quickly when that happens they were punished, their punishment was not providing food for them. White people were not put through all of this, they did not have hard jobs because they would monitor slaves and owned slaves. The autobiography was written during 1861. Her story was the beginning of a good change. Her story is mind-blowing, she had to face a difficult obstacle in order to be free, many people should read her story to learn about history. Throughout this course we saw males and female slaves were not very different. Both sex did not received education but males had more of an advantage the level of education they had was basic but it was something. Conclusion The family role was different for both sex because females had to do household activities and take care of the children in the other hand males had to provide income. Same goes with getting a job, women would not work and stayed home and males would work in the fields. White peoples life was not as challenging. Both sex had the opportunity to have an education and a job. Family roles were similar to slave women roles, they had to take care of their children. However, this is her story we can not rely on her insight. The way things that happen to her were very heart breaking but she was not the exception, if we dig more into more female slaves story her story would be similar to the rest of them. It is a good thing that a woman shared her story, we are used to males having more power than women and society views that as a correct thing.

Obedience At All Costs Essay - 1376 Words

Following orders unquestionably is one of the traits that the military wants their soldier to have; this quality, however, has caused controversy throughout time. Rob Reiner captures this struggle in his film A Few Good Men. In this film, two men, Lance Corporal Dawson and Private First Class Downey are charged with the murder of fellow Marine, Private First Class Santiago. Dawson and Downey claim that they did not commit a crime but rather, were following orders to perform a â€Å"Code Red†. A â€Å"Code Red† is defined as a disciplinary action performed inside the Marines by Marines. Stanley Milgram’s article, â€Å"The Perils of Obedience† delves into the issue of obedience. His experiment consisted of subjects being told to electrocute other people†¦show more content†¦Many military personnel believe that certain aspects of the military should stay inside the wall of the military. When Colonel Jessep shouts, â€Å"You can’t handle the truth,† he demonstrates that civilians and outsiders of the military would not be able to grasp why certain actions are taking place and the needs for such action (Reiner). Soldiers in the military know the consequences to not following an order issued by a superior. According to Ron Powers, a man with 22 years of service and has been awarded many medals, states in his article â€Å"To Obey or To Not Obey† that soldiers are trained from recruitment to deployment to follow orders unquestionably. Soldiers are also told that willfully disobeying orders can result in a dishonorable discharge, or in a time of war, death (Powers). This leaves soldiers a minimal amount of ability to allow himself to follow his own morals. The thought of disobeying an order will usually bring disgust to the face of a soldier. This is because a soldier is merely performing his job in following order. Also, according to Kelman and Hamilton, the only time for a soldier to declare a complaint about an order is after it has already been followed through, thus causing the complaint to be moot (271). The military produces a difficulty for soldiers to follow their own morals if they conflict with the task at hand. Essay on To Pray or Not to Pray in Schools - 1503 Words

To Pray or Not to Pray in Schools The trend of taking God and moral teaching out of schools is a diabolical scheme, declared the Reverend Billy Graham soon after the Engel versus Vitale and Schempp verdict (Haas 30). The debate over the separation of church and state had been swirling through courtrooms for years. The controversy over school prayer in the Engel versus Vitale case started over a prayer recited in the New York public school system, known as the Regents Prayer. Two hundred and thirty-five school-assoc iated violent deaths occurred in the United States over the past eight years (1). One in twelve high school students is threatened or injured with a weapon each year These numbers are outrageous. School children obviously arent being taught the difference between right and wrong. As Minister Kerry Hill says, It seems like every time we have a school shooting or major incident involving a school, the first thing everybody wants to do is hold a prayer vigil. It seems to me that if you believe in the power of prayer post-disaster, you should believe in it pre-disaster, (Reeves 3). Drug use in teenagers has increased over the years. Teens have turned to drugs because of many reasons including lack of strong moral values and religious beliefs (Madigan 1). Habitat for Humanity (Speech) Essay Example For Students

Habitat for Humanity (Speech) Essay An estimated 5.1 million American households face worst-case housing needs, according to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Receiving little or no government housing assistance, these families are unable to find a decent place to live at a price they can afford to pay. They are also forced to pay more than half their income for housing, endure overcrowded conditions and live in houses with severe physical deficiencies, and thats just in the U.S.; worldwide more than 2 billion people live in poverty housing. While the number of families in poverty is growing, the number of affordable rental units is shrinking, and most families who qualify for government housing assistance arent receiving any aid. Working in partnership with low-income families to build decent homes they can afford to buy, Habitat for Humanity helps to break the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. By the end of 2005, more than 1 million people worldwide will live in decent, affordable Habitat for Humanity houses. Ive been researching HFH for about 2 months now because I am planning to join during the summer and Ive realized that the need for decent, affordable housing is great and HFH helps fill that need. Today Im going to tell you why HFH is needed, how HFH helps, why you should get involved and what you can do to help. First Ill tell you why its needed. Next Slide MORE THAN 11 MILLION AMERICANS FACE WORST-CASE NEEDS According to a report prepared for Congress in 2003 by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), 5. 1 million American households face worst-case housing needs. These families: are renters receiving no government assistance; make less than 50 percent of the area median income; pay more than 50 percent of their income for rent and utilities and/or live in housing with severe physical deficiencies; include some 3.6 million children, 1.6 million elderly adults and 1.3 million disabled adults. Worldwide, the need is even greater. Some 2 billion people worldwide live in poverty housing. More than 1 billion live in urban slums, and that figure is expected to double by 2030. Many of these people earn less than US$2 per day. Housing problems have far-reaching consequences. The high cost of housing leaves low-income families little money for other basic necessities like food, clothing or health care. Substandard housing can endanger the health and safety of its occupants, erode their hope and self-worth, and impair their childrens ability to succeed in school. Next Slide Affordable Housing Statistics THE UNITED STATES HOUSING NEED IS GREAT More than 30 million U.S. households face one or more of the following housing problems: Cost burdens: paying an excessively large percentage of income on housing costs. More than 13 million households pay more than 50 percent of their income for housing. Overcrowding: the number of people living in the house is greater than the total number of rooms in the house. About 6. 1 million households live in overcrowded conditions. Physical inadequacy: severe physical deficiencies, such as having no hot water, no electricity, no toilet, or neither a bathtub nor a shower. One out of every seven poor families lives in severely physically inadequate housing. GOVERNMENT AID IS NOT HELPING MOST OF THOSE IN NEED Of the 30 million households with housing problems, 14.5 million qualify for government aid, yet only 4.1 million are actually receiving any. In fact, most of the U.S. governments housing subsidies do not benefit the poor. For example, in 1995, homeowners earning more than $100,000 per year received a total of $28.9 billion in federal income tax deductions on mortgage interest payments. By comparison, the entire 1999 budget of HUD was only $25 billion. .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 , .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .postImageUrl , .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 , .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72:hover , .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72:visited , .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72:active { border:0!important; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72:active , .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72 .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u869292e2e82537d6954259c2e75b2f72:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Three Reasons Against Gun Control EssayAFFORDABLE HOUSING IS GETTING HARDER TO FIND For every 100 very low-income renters, only 76 affordable rental units are currently available. Diversity in Workplace Organizational Posses

Question: Describe about the Diversity in Workplace for Organizational Posses. Answer: Introduction Diversity in workplace means the different attitudes and values that people in organization posses. Diversity in workplace is gaining a lot of importance in todays world. It is beneficial for the employees as well as advantageous for employers and managers. Diversity in workplace means recruitment of people in the organization from different places, cultures, religions, gender, and origins. Workplace diversity refers to different types of people that work in an organization. It includes diversity encompassing race, gender, age, group, personality, attitude, lifestyle, culture, education and background (Afzal et al., 2013). Managing this diversity in workplace is necessary as diversity in workplace provides many opportunities and challenges that can be mitigated if properly managed. As per the opinion of Barak, (2013),diversity at workplace is gaining attention due to the process of globalization. The interactions at workplace are rising. People today compete with the global world and do not remain inclusive. Hence, it is essential for the organizations to recognize this and become more diverse in its culture by recruiting people from all over the world. The issue of managing diversity at workplace is gaining importance. Then organizations should become multicultural in its operations, as managing diversity is an important managerial change. Despite of this workforce diversity, career and personal development remains obstacles for many specially females and minority groups. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the importance of workforce diversity and analyze the challenges and opportunities the managers in 21st century confront. Body Importance of diversity at workplace Workplace diversity is seeking the attention of the managers and employers because globalization is leading to increase in interaction among people from diverse culture. According to Bhattacharya, (2012), workplace diversity affects all the business and organizations. A team lacking in diversity is a bad sign. The interactions between the individuals and groups are rising with the rise in globalization. People now do not only leave in a secluded environment. They compete with people from worldwide. Diversity at workplaces has more opportunities of increasing competitive advantage and productivity. The needs of 21st century require citizens to be culturally sensitive and internationally focused. The orientation of 21st century has shifted from past to the future (Bond Haynes, 2014). Hence, in this scenario it is essential for the organizations to hire people and individuals that are creative in their thinking, which is possible by hiring diverse people from different background and c ulture. The term diverse workforce is often misused and misconnected. In 21st century, it is more linked to political ping-pong. The social differences lead the people to view world and society differently. The 21st century has led to transform employee and employer relationship. A more diverse workforce creates opportunities for creation of demand by providing more innovative products (Djabi Shimada, 2013). Offering flexible workforce and environment helps in managing the use of technologies efficiently. The diversity at workplace is gaining importance and the perspective has changed. The number of women employed in organizations has increased. Diversity at workplaces is seen more as a source to achieve competitive advantage rather than creating knowledge based economy (Ewoh, 2013). Diverse workforce helps the organizations fight the challenges that they face at the market place. The responsibility of the managers is to formulate plans and strategies to implement diverse workforce at organization. It is the duty of the human resource manager to manage the employees in an organization effectively. Diversity at workplace is important for the managers as well as employees. Workplace diversity helps in fostering mutual respect among employees. It also helps the employees in conflict resolution, and expanding the social life. Working with diversified workforce helps in bringing respect to the employees increasing and improving the performance of the organization. It also helps in increasing exposure. Employees work from different backgrounds that helps in increasing exposure (Harvey Allard, 2015). Workforce diversity has various economic benefits as well. It helps in driving economic growth as human capital substantially grows with incorporation of more women, ethnic minorities and racial people in the organization. It also leads to more qualified workers, as employers tend to hire the best employees while choosing from the diverse workforce. Diversity also leads to creation of employment opportunities. Many corporate today have employed a certain department in the organization for managing the diversity at the workplace. This department is known as human resource department (Jonsen et al., 2013). According to Kirton Greene, (2015), many organizations are changing the way they are adopting diverse culture in an organization. In recent time the perspective and definition of diversity, management has changed. It not only includes inclusion of gender, sex, race and culture but also diversity in thoughts. Maintaining diversity of thoughts is essential for managing the talent by managing techniques and problem solving methods critically. Lack of diversity greatly affects the companies that are future focused. Technology leads to movement from burden to benefit. The discussion of workplace diversity is becoming more open and diverse. Diversity at workplace helps in promoting more tolerant environment. Workforce diversity challenges and opportunities confronting new managers in the 21st century: Managing diversity at workplaces is both an important and difficult task. The management of diversity has many challenges and opportunities that the managers in 21st century face. According to Kumar, (2015), the employees at diverse company come from different backgrounds and culture and hence managing them is a complex task. People have differences in attitude and thinking that often creates conflict at workplace. The benefits and advantages of diversity in workplace is not without the challenges that is given as follows. Since people in organization come from different background and culture, hence their way of communication differs. The languages that they use are different. Hence, it is the duty of the human resource department and managers to manage the cultural and language barriers in order to manage the diversity successfully. As opined by Martn Alczar et al., (2013), the miscommunication and ineffective communication often leads to confusion in workplace that can harm the success of the organization. Ineffective communication also leads to lack of teamwork and lowers the morale. Hence, managing communication and overcoming the language barrier is one of the major challenges that the managers need to manage. The second challenge of diverse workforce is not acceptance to apply the change or resistance to change. According to Podsiadlowski et al., (2013), the managers come across various types of people in the organization. Diversity means adapting changes. Individuals who are not ready to resist changing are a big challenge to the managers. This leads to the creation of negative attitude that leads to slowing of the positive change and productivity. The managers can overcome this challenge by providing workshops where the employees can know each other so that it becomes easy for them to adapt to change. The third challenge of diversity at workforce is unorganized diversity management plan. It is essential for the managers to not only provide sufficient training but to create an efficient successful implementation plan. According to Sagar, (2014), managers must take an organized approach so that the diversity can be managed efficiently. The diversity plan should be communicated efficiently with the staff through meetings and conferences so that the organizations are able to manage the diversity at workforce effectively. It is the responsibility of the managers to make the employees understand the importance of diversity at workplace. This is because not all people in organization are ready to accept change and diversity. Another challenge of managing diversity is capturing opportunities that the diversity provides. According to Schaeffer Mattis, (2012), diversity leads to generation of new approaches and practices. It is essential for the managers to formulate flexible strategies so that they are able to incorporate these practices. The managers should manage the diverse workforce effectively so that there is no discrimination. Often there is found that women are given less priority in recruiting them in higher position. This may lead to discrimination of employees. People from different cultures meets at one place and work together. The attitude of different people at work may be different, due to which the conflicts at work may arise. Hence, it is the duty of manager to manage and resolve the conflict at workplace to manage the tension. According to Scott, (2012), discrimination and fairness are the two major challenges that the organization face in managing the workforce diversity. It is essential for the managers to ensure that the workforce diversity is managed fairly so that the plan does not hurt sentiment of any individual or group. Inclusion of all the employees in an organization is often challenging for managers. The responsibility of integrating individuals at work is the duty of the manager. The team should be building in such a way so that it contains peoples from diverse background and culture. However, despite of having various challenges of managing diversity at workplace it also gives managers an opportunity that if utilized properly can lead to bring success to the organization. According to Urciuoli, (2015), workplace diversity is a key to improve the productivity of the organization. Diversity at workforce helps in combining different talents at an organization that can be utilized to increase the productivity. Different individuals have different set of skills. Combining all the skills together will help in better achievement of goals and targets set by the organization. It not only increases the productivity of the organization but also the loyalty of the employees and their retention power. As opined by Ewoh, (2013), diversity at workplace also leads to increased creativity and problem solving. Diversity at workplace leads to generation of new ideas that can be beneficial for the firm. Diverse and different minds join towards fulfilling the goals of the company. The people have different ways of thinking, solving problems and making decisions that can be used as an opportunity in an organization. Diverse workforce also creates an opportunity to increase the market share of the organization as it helps in creating a satisfied customer base due to availability of people from diverse background. The companies in United States were able to capture major market share due to incorporation of diverse workforce in an organization. It helps in stimulating innovation so that the organizations can outperform the competition. Diversity management leads to expansion of the global market. Diversity at workplace also leads to build a good reputation for the company leading to great opportunities and profitability for the workers. An organization that is known for inclusion, ethics, diversity and fairness will attract more loyal customers that are likely to stay attached to the organization for a long period. Conclusion Hence, it can be concluded that diversity at workplace is gaining importance and seeking attention of not only the managers but also the employees. Diversity at workforce has many advantages and challenges for the managers and employees. Managing diversity at organization is seeking attention in 21st century because of globalization and increase in interactions. Workforce diversity has many challenges because of various reasons that are differences in languages, cultures, communication, resistance to change and conflicts. If the managers properly manage these challenges then various opportunities are available to the organization. Diverse workforce leads to improvement of the productivity of the organization. It helps in managing people effectively increasing their loyalty and making them more enthusiastic to work. Inclusion of the diverse workforce in organization can either break or make the organization. Hence, the strategies and implementation plan should be managed effectively b y the managers in order to reap the maximum benefit. References Afzal, F., Mahmood, K., Samreen, F., Asim, M., Sajid, M. The Enigma Machine and How It Worked free essay sample

These substitutions occur because of the positions of the rotors on the inside of the machine. The rotors are first situated at any random letter in the alphabet and when the button is pressed, the letter that is at the beginning of the rotor is put onto the paper. Then if the same letter were to be pressed again, a different letter would appear because the rotor will have changed position. The fully typed and encoded message would be printed out and mailed to the person it was designated to and then that person would put in that code into their enigma machine and that machine would decipher the encoded message. Why did the Enigma machine work? : The enigma machine worked so well because there were so many different combinations of rotors that could have been used because each rotor had a different arbitrary sorting of letters. There were so many combinations for the enigma machine and its rotors. We will write a custom essay sample on The Enigma Machine and How It Worked or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Things became much more complicated when German scientists began to use 5 different rotors which could fit into only 3 slots, which increased the amount of combinations that could be used in the enigma machine. With all these rotors and so few slots that were used in the enigma machine, there were countless possibilities of combinations to choose from. When people were decrypting the codes they were sent, they had to make sure they put the rotors in the exact same position as the person who sent it. This would increase the amount of possibilities that the enigma machine possessed which made it a lot harder to crack because of all the possible combinations. My Goal: My goal in this paper is to answer several questions and provide my roof for these questions. I will be asking: 1. How many different ways can we fit 3 different rotors into 3 different slots? 2. How many combinations can we find if we have 4 different rotors that will fit into four slots? 3. How many combinations can I find if I have 5 rotors that can go into five slots? 4. How many combinations are there if I have 5 rotors but only three slots? 5. And finally, if I have 26 different starting places for each dial, how many start ing places would I have in total? Note: I will also be attempting to show many patterns that arise while searching for the answers to these questions and I will try to explain these patterns. List of Symbols: Before I begin, I feel it is important to list all the symbols that I will be using. I will be using the numbers: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 to represent a rotor, with 1 representing the first rotor, 2 representing the second rotor, and so on. Rotors that I will be using Rotors that I will be using Amount of Rotors, slots, and combos Amount of Rotors, slots, and combos How will I proceed with this: I will first write out the amount of rotors, slots and combinations in a format like this: â€Å"X rotors: Y Slots: Z combinations†. Then underneath this general information I will write which rotors I will be using i. e. Rotors: 1/2/3. Then, I will show how I came up with the number of combinations. By looking at the amount of rotors and by representing each rotor with a number, i. e. 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, I will be able to display all the possible combinations of the rotors. And then, underneath my combinations, I will write my explanation and, if there is one, the equation. A way we can visualize why this works is that if we were to take a rock that had 2 scratches on it, then take another scratch that had 2 scratches on it, and placed them next to each other, then in total there would be 4 scratches when the rocks were in that certain position. But if we were to arrange the rocks so that the rock that was in front of the other rock was now in the back, and the rock that was in the back was now in the front, we have a whole new position for the rocks that still have 4 scratches on them. They are the same scratches. Changing the position of the rock is like putting each rotor into a different slot every time, the rotors will not always be in the same slot every single time, they are in different positions every time, by taking into account the amount of slots, one can calculate how many positions several rotors can take. The idea of putting the rotors into different positions is the same idea of changing the position of the rock. By looking at how many rocks we have, we can figure out how many positions we can put them in. this is combinations. If we have 3 rocks, we can arrange them into 6 different positions. If we have 4 rocks, we can arrange each of them into 24 positions. This is why we use the amount of combinations of the rotors to figure out how many combinations are there for the dials in total. If we can multiply the amount of combinations by the amount of dials, we will figure out all the combinations for the dials. Equation: (Amount of combinations for rotors)(amount of dials on rotor)=Amount of total amount of combinations for dials.

Analysis of the Tragedy Othello Essay Example

Analysis of the Tragedy Othello Essay Example Analysis of the Tragedy Othello Paper Analysis of the Tragedy Othello Paper Essay Topic: Othello William Shakespeare is considered to be among the greatest playwrights that have ever lived. He has written dozens and dozens of brilliant plays, most of those plays have been made into movies. One such play that has been made into a movie is â€Å"Othello. † The play â€Å"Othello† is one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies. It is about a black general in the Italian army, Othello, and what happened between him and his wife, Desdemona. The main villain in this play is Iago; who is a soldier under Othello’s command. Iago tells Othello numerous lies about Desdemona and Othello’s friend, and former right-hand man, Cassio. Shakespeare covers quite a few of the major issues that are still facing society today. These themes such as ethnicity, betrayal, and love are what make this play one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies. One of the more noticeable themes that Shakespeare discusses in this play is Ethnicity. Othello is a moor that somehow managed to climb his way up the ladder to the rank of general. At this time in history, blacks were considered to be barbarians, and murderous heathens. It is a very rare thing that a black man would be able to obtain the rank of general in a predominantly Caucasian army. It caused quite a bit of jealousy among the other officers serving under Othello. This element may have fueled the fire behind Iago’s lies and hatred for Othello. Another example when the ethnicity of Othello caused a problem was when he and Desdemona were married. Desdemona’s father is furious over his daughter marrying a moor. They even end up going to an Italian court to settle this matter. Normally Othello would have been executed for his actions, but because he was needed to lead the army he was allowed to stay married to Desdemona. This decision by the courts is another element that contributed to Iago’s betrayal, because if the court had ruled against Othello, Rodrigo wouldn’t have had a reason to pay Iago to spread his lies and deception. The Element that Shakespeare uses most in this play is Betrayal. There is one person at the center of most of the betrayal that takes place in the play- Iago. Iago has no loyalties to anyone throughout the entire story, not even to his own wife. He betrays every character at some point. He betrayed Cassio by getting him drunk and letting him shame himself in front of Othello. Then he betrays him further by telling him to go to Desdemona and plead his case with her so she will try to convince Othello to reinstate him. Iago even betrays his own wife when he gets her to steal Desdemona’s handkerchief, and leaves it in Cassio’s room. But, the person that he betrays most of all is Othello. Iago blatantly lies to Othello’s face with every word he speaks. Through Iago’s lies and manipulation, Othello begins to believe that Desdemona doesn’t love him and that she is in love with Cassio. Iago does such a good job at deceiving Othello, that Othello believes that the only way out of this situation is to kill his wife. Like most villains Iago’s treachery only leads to his own downfall. Iago isn’t the only character that betrays another person. Most of the other characters commit acts of betrayal that were much worse than the betrayals committed by Iago. Iago’s wife, Emilia, betrays her husband by telling Othello about the handkerchief that she stole for Iago. Even though it may have been the right thing to do this betrayal led to her and her husband’s deaths. Desdemona is the only one that seems innocent in this play, but she also contributes to the theme of betrayal. She lies to Othello about losing the handkerchief, and tells him that she still has it. This only furthers Othello’s suspicion that Desdemona is having an affair with his friend Cassio. But, Othello makes the largest betrayal of all when he believes the lies that Iago has told him rather than word of his own wife. Iago’s lies convince Othello that the only way to deal with the situation is to murder his wife. Not trusting a person that you love is one of the worst betrayals of all. Another theme that stands out in many Shakespearian plays is love. In â€Å"Othello† as in most of Shakespeare’s tragedies, love is one of the main driving force behind the actions of the main characters. Love was the reason why Desdemona lied to Othello about the missing handkerchief. Because, she knew how much it meant to him and she didn’t want to hurt him by telling him that she had lost it. Also Othello’s love for Desdemona might have been the reason that he went through with his betrayals. Desdemona’s betrayals wouldn’t have mattered as much to him if he didn’t love her. He also showed that he loved her when he killed himself after he found out that Iago had deceived him and that she was innocent. On the other hand Iago’s betrayals were fueled by nothing more than hate and greed. Ethnicity, betrayal, and love are difficult issues for the characters of the play to cope with. It ends up being too much for the characters and as in all of Shakespeare’s tragedies the majority of the people are killed. Shakespeare’s blending of these different elements is what made this play so enjoyable to watch. â€Å"Othello† is, by far, one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies.
